When Trump is making irresponsible remarks every day without thinking, it is hard to make out what he meant to say. On the other side, the historical city and epitome of India’s old civilization, Pataliputra, now known as Patna, a capital city of Bihar, is wrestling to solve the fight between two famous teachers, Faizal Khan and Raushan Anand. It has caught the attention of Indian leaders and Indian media, which is working hard to grab people’s attention, trying to make this news on national television with heavy graphics, visuals, and background music.
A brief follow-up of the incident suggests that Raushan Anand’s supporters attacked Faizal Khan’s coaching centre and caused material damage. Faizal Khan made an outline description of firing by Raushan’s supporters, and later he retracted from this. Evidence suggests that bullets were fired by the guards of Faizal Khan who were guarding the coaching centre. Soon it became a big media buzz, and the legacy on online social media started taking shape. Under pressure, Raushan Anand was sent to jail, and Faizal Khan successfully secured anticipatory bail. A few days later, it was reported that Raushan Anand’s brother died in suspicious circumstances in a hotel in Nepal, and Raushan, who is out on bail, alleged Faizal was behind this death.
Now this has become a political issue, and political leaders have started taking sides and speaking in favour of each of these celebrated teachers. Whatever the reality is, the vision of justice seems blurred here in this battle of power, and students are at the receiving end. No doubt Faizal has been the cheerleader of social media with a huge fan following. On the other hand, Raushan Anand comes from Bihar’s politically powerful Yadav caste, and has political backing from leaders like Tejashwi, who has started directly supporting Raushan and labelling Faizal Khan as the big conspirator.
In this tricky situation, it will be a tough job for the police and judiciary to act independently without public pressure. Let’s see what turn it takes, but let’s hope it does not hamper the students in pursuing their aspirations, which get fulfilled by these private teachers. The questions are many, but one thing is clear — Bihar’s broken education system has given rise to the flourishing of the private coaching industry, and they have become like semi-gods.
