Patna, Nov 16:
The 7th QGCA All India Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2025 concluded in Patna with a strong display of emerging youth talent, as Prakhar Tripathi (U15, Uttar Pradesh) secured the championship title with an impressive 8 points out of 9 rounds.
The two-day event, held on 15 and 16 November at Hotel Diamant Inn, Patna, was organised by the Queens Gambit Chess Academy (QGCA). The tournament attracted 127 participants across multiple age categories, including U7 to U15, a senior S50 group, and a girls’ section. Players from across Bihar and neighbouring states took part, making it one of the most active youth chess events in the region.

Bihar Players Secure Podium Spots
Bihar’s promising juniors delivered strong performances, with Himanshu Ranjan (Bhojpur) finishing second with 7.5 points, followed closely by Sudhanshu Ranjan (Bhojpur), who also scored 7.5 points, placing third on tie-break.
Patna’s Vipul Subhashi secured the fourth position with 7 points, while Aniket Ranjan (Begusarai) finished fifth, also with 7 points, reflecting the growing competitive strength of Bihar’s chess players.
Junior Talents Stand Out
Several juniors made noteworthy progress during the tournament:
- Ayansh Singh (U9) finished with 6 points, emerging as one of the most promising young participants.
- Ishaan Satvat (U15) also scored 6 points, demonstrating solid positional play and consistency across rounds.
Organisers noted that the strong participation of young players highlights the rising interest in chess across Patna and Bihar. The tournament aims to provide a platform for nurturing new talent and preparing aspiring players for higher-level competitions.
Growing Chess Culture in Patna
With regular tournaments, training programmes, and improving participation levels, Patna is steadily strengthening its position in the regional chess landscape. QGCA officials stated their intention to further expand the scale of the event in the coming years, aiming to attract more rated players and enhance competitive depth.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony across all categories, including age groups, seniors, and the girls’ section.
